"For improved vehicle performance, NISSAN recommends the use of unleaded premium gasoline with an octane rating of at least 91 AKI number " Like I said,,it doesn't say it will not run on Reg.......your going to get reduced mileage, reduce HP, and its going to ping on hard acceleration. The engine is designed to run best on Premium, if it was not, then yes, Premium is a waste of money. Hey its your $30,000 car,,save your pennies and take your chances,,,if you read the whole manual, it says that if you experience frequent spark knock, you should use a better grade fuel, and that prolonged operation of the vehicle could damage the engine, and void the warrantee. This thread keeps coming up over and over,,,go to maxima.org and see what the experts say about which fuel to use. Those guys on maxima.org even go out hunting for 104 octane!!:) CD Why does everyone in these threads always leave out the previous sentence in the owners manual: "Use unleaded regular gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number (Research octane number 91)."? Just because the car costs $30,000 doesn't mean you are automatically injuring it if you don't give it more than what the manual says is required. There are lots of $30,000 cars out there that use regular gas. "For improved performance" means optional and implies you have a choice. Using the required fuel octane (87) cannot void the warranty. Screaming louder does not make it so. It should not "ping" on 87 octane fuel. If the car is not running correctly on what is clearly stated as the required fuel grade, that is a fault that should be corrected under the warranty. Take it back to the dealer and make them fix it. If the car injures itself because of using 87 octane fuel, that is also a fault that should be corrected under the warranty.
