Everything I read and hear seems to indicate that the goodyear triple
treads are excellent, except for fuel consumption.

Look at Nokian WR's. I live in Michigan (upper part of the glove), and 3 of
my sisters have them on their cars, 2 of which are FWD. They don't have any
problems at all. It's the only all-season tire to also have the "snow and
ice" rating (mountain with a snowflake symbol on tire).
You can get them at Tire Factory.

Consider the Yokohama Avid H4s...check www.tirerack.com for reviews.
I have them on my 96 Maxima. They are wearing much faster than their
warranty would imply, but wet-traction has been awesome. I have not
yet found an all-season tire that I would say is "awesome" in snow,
but these have been no better or worse in snow than other other tire I
have tried.

I second the Avid H4s...
I have a new set on my 2002 SE and they are fantastic wet & dry.
I have not tried them in snow yet sorry, since I live in Calgary
(moderate amount of snow) I was going to get a set of dedicated winter
tires/rims.

I used to exclusively run Michelin's on all my cars. Then by chance I
purchased " Futura Touring" tires made by Cooper and sold by PepBoys.
They are an 80k mile tire, all season, and are very comparible to the
Mich's in regards to tread life and traction on all road conditions. The
best part is they are about half the price! On my 2001 maxima they were
approx. 56.00 each for the 16 inch tires that are on my car. And NO I
dont work for pepboys nor am I affiliated in any way.
BTW in the last year or so they came out with a few new designs on
these Cooper made tires but I have not researched them yet. Hope this
helps and good luck.
