Clicking Noise while Steering

Hello all,

My 1990 Maxima SE (VG Engine) with 75K miles recently developed a loud
clicking noise.  It is present whenever I turn the steering wheel in
either direction past approximately 1/2 turn.  I suspected the CV
joints, but I also noticed that if I depressed the clutch and turned
without accelerating, I could pin the wheel in either direction with no
noise.  Could this possibly be the power steering pump?  Thanks for
your help!

CV joints make noise under accelleration if funky. Power steering pump
makes a groaning/moaning sound.

Amazed you have so few miles on the car. Look for a cracked, broken, or
damaged boot. I figure with so few miles yours cratered due to age. My
93 has 295,000. Ran close to 2 years with a clicking shaft and just
replaced it (original) a month ago so it's not prone to immediate and
catrostrophic failure.
