Low mileage (35k) 97' drops small puddle of oil every time it is parked.
Appears to be from the joint of the timing chain cover just above the oil
pan.
Major labor cost to repair.

Has anyone had this problem or know if this is this a common problem with
this engine and is it likely to happen again if I spend 800 bucks or so to
reseal the cover?

It probably won't recur from that cover if you have it fixed, but on the
other hand, you can replenish an awful lot of oil for $800.  Have you
considered spreading kitty litter under it on your driveway?
