Thought I would post recent incident with 1999 Maxima 250Km manual
transmission.
One week ago, car won't start, put battery charger on it a couple of
hours, starts up and off to the local garage, they say 2 year old battery
is gone, okay it gets replaced.
Now I'm thinking 3 year Nissan recalled the car replaced the alternator,
they said the internal regulator may over heat and cause a fire (it was
over charging the battery then), after the change no problem.
So new battery in off for the weekend and Sunday a.m. go to start the
car, battery dead, find a charger, hook it up, battery taking full 15
amps on the charger, couple of hours and good to go.
3 hour drive (no head lights on) make it home and get it taken back to
the local garage, they say battery is fine s is the charging system, so
take it to Nissan. They look at and say new power steering belt,
alternator belt and alternator. Ask them about the 3 year old alternator
they put in, they say too bad for you. So take it back to the local
garage, they line up the belts and alternator, go to install and fine the
outer drive ring on the harmonic balancer is loose.
Big bill but all working well, plus now the screeching that used to be
heard when first starting the engine is now gone.
Have something similar check the harmonic balancer first, me thinks the
alternator was fine, but local garage had returned it for core on the new
one.

I think you are correct they shafted you as many all over the world get
shafted by dishonest service Dept.s each day. We all have stories of getting
the shaft with our Autos and Trucks repairs I sure have a bunch.
