I have a 1995 Nissan Maxima and it has recently been having some
problems. It has 225000 miles on it. If any one could help with these
problems it would be greatly appreciated.

1. The rpm gauge and the temperature gauge will not work at all. And
my speedometer works most of the time but sometimes it quits too. What
causes these problems? Someone told me that it's caused by a bad
sensor, if so what sensors is it???

2. Sometimes when I try to start it I have to push the gas
continuously while turning the key over so that it will start.
Sometimes it takes forever. What is this caused from? Also, sometimes
I will get it to start just fine, then it will cut off immediately and
I have to start it again by pushing the gas repetedly. What is
wrong???

3. Sometimes when I am driving down the highway my car starts shaking/
stalling/jerking almost like it is going to quit, then if I push the
gas a little harder it will quit messing up. What causes this? And if
it helps sometimes my car quits when I stop like at a light or a stop
sign???

I've been told that my "High Side O2 Sensor" is bad. When I tried to
look at parts online there were only one kind of O2 sensor??? What
exactly do I need. And could this be what is causing my other
problems??

Thanks for any help you can give me! :)

i have an 85 maxima and when the crank sensor started going out i had
to push down on the gas to get it started too, you can have your
computer tested and that might say if it is bad.  i did a self check
on my ecu and it showed that and i had a lot of the same problems you
are havin.  as for the spedometer, i have the same problems too, but
mine is a lot older and mine is mechanical while yours is prob
electrical.  the )2 sensor; what they mean my high side and low side i
would assume mean bank one and bank two (before and after the cat)

1. This is most likely an electrical problem. You might try replacing
all of the ground cables. Some vendors sell kits of all the primary
ground cables the car needs.

2. This may be indicative of a grounding problem. I had a problem with
the transmission ground (The mechanic forgot to reconnect it.) that
did this.

3. Sounds like the ECU is either failing, or getting disconnected from
the engine. This again, is electrical, judging from your other
problems, it may have more to do with a short or a bad ground than the
ECU itself.

4. I doubt that the oxygen sensor is causing all of the other
problems, but it could be causing #2 and #3.

You can test the connectors in your car using a voltage tester.
