Long Term Plans for the Maxima --- ideas?

Hey all,

I owned a 1998 Maxima, sold it for a VW, and back with Nissan now, as
I just leased an 04 Maxima.  What are the long term plans for the
Maxima?  Does Nissan plan (at some point) offering a V8 on it (as well
as the fantastic V6), and more importantly, does anyone think that AWD
will be available for it?

There is a push for AWD on higher end vehicles by all the
manufacturers.  A V8 doesn't make any sense just now--it already has
plenty of torque to the front wheels.  AWD is very likely (but by no
means done deal) since Murano (same platform) has it already.  Nissan
just announced that the Altima will be upgraded with higher quality
interior trim to answer the criticism of a cheap interior on an
otherwise fine family sedan.  I would expect the Maxima to gain
something to distance itself more from the altima.  If not AWD, then
surely traction control.

I am still driving my 98SE and from what I am seeing with the new Nissan
directions. I plan on keeping my 98 and then someday moving on to some
other brand. I traded off the wifes 89SE for a kia Sorento and so far I
am very happy and money ahead of going with Nissan.

Its hard to speculate on AWD ...on one hand its already an option on the
G35. The 04 Max seems to be in an awkward position between the 3.5 Altima
and Infiniti. jmo

If you want a real hot rod, with all the bells and whistles, get a G-35.(or
a 350Z)  It's RWD and to me, a much more advanced car than the Maxima, I own
2 Maximas, and really love them, but they are limited by the FWD platform.
However, if I can scrape together the money, I will buy the
G-35....basically an advanced Maxima with RWD......it dosen't get any better
than that! I wish Nissan would make a Maxima with RWD.....I'd buy 2 right
NOW!

I'm not a fan of RWD mainly because of all the snow up here in new england. RWD
in the snow isn't great at all.. from my experiance anyway
