My 02 maxima's VIAS is not working. It does not move at all throughout the
entire rpm range. It is my understanding that it should close at 1800 and
open again at 3600 rpms. There is no vacuum to the mechanical lever. The
solenoid has a consistent 13.5 volts throughout the entire rpm range. Is the
solenoid bad?

It was the solenoid.

I'm no expert but I think it stands for variable intake air system. From
what I have read it changes the lengh of the intake runners. It's mounted on
the intake manifold.

I found it in my 2003 workshop manual:

The VIAS control solenoid valve cuts the intake manifold vacuum
signal for power valve control. It responds to ON/OFF signals from
the ECM. When the solenoid is off, the vacuum signal from the
intake manifold is cut. When the ECM sends an ON signal the coil
pulls the plunger downward and feeds the vacuum signal to the
power valve actuator.

Thanks for the input. If you don't mind, I would like to know what book that
info came from and where to get it. I have a haynes manuel that claims to
cover (1993 thru 2004) but I have found it lacking a lot of info about my
2002 max including any info at all about the vias system. I would love to
have a book that covers everything.
