Sparkplugs on '97 3.0 maxima

I've been told the inlet manifold needs to be removed to replace plugs. I
this true?

No.

There is a plastic cover on the front of the engine block, take that
off.  It's just a couple of socket head cap screws.

You do need a 12" extension to reach the plugs.

No.  You have to take off the plastic cover over the front of the engine to
do the front plugs.  There is nothing over the rear.  Just remove the coils
and change the plugs as you would with any other modern engine.

Thanks for explaining  sparkplug replacement for me. Do you believe it wa
actually a mechanic who told me manifold had to be removed. Some mechanic
must obtain their trade certificate from a cereal packet!

Sounds like someone who wouldn't know a plenum from a plenum cover.  Big
difference.
