92 Maxima running rough when hot

My Maxima has started running roughly when it has warmed up. It's fine
when cold. When it's idling I can smell a little raw fuel in the
exhaust.

I replaced the spark plugs and none of them look like it's been
running too rich.

I was going to start replacing the coil, plug leads and distributor
cap but I thought I would check in here first before I start spending
money on it.

Any suggestions on what it might be?

Hi Ray,

Just went through a similar experience with my '91.

I replaced the oxygen sensor on the exhaust manifold and the mass air
flow sensor near the air filter & now it's running like a champ. I
used
a remanufactured MAF sensor I got online for about $150. It's a good
idea to blast the O2 sensor with penetrating oil for a few days
before
you try to remove . . . it can be really stubborn. If you want to
experiment, you could clean your current O2 sensor & put it back in to
look for improvement. If it does run better, you probably would want
to replace it.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the advice Silverhammer, I'll give that a try.

I never used any fuel additives, but after an old timer friend of mine
mentioned a fuel additive called Sea Foam, I used it in his 83 280ZX.
The results were great.  His car had been running rich and after the sea
foam, the engine went back to purring like a nice kitty.

Good luck,

AS
