Hi,
I own a 2002 Maxima SE with 29000 miles on it. The other day I and
my friend were driving on the Interstate and my friend mentioned the
following problem. As we increased the speed upto 70mph (at about
2400rpm) we could feel lot of vibration inside the car. Initially we
thought it might be the road, but after changing to a different
Interstate we could replicate vibrations.
Once I cross 72mph/73mph then the vibrations are not that
noticeable. My friend says it may be a problem with wheel alignment.
But I am not sure, because knowingly I have never hit a curb or went
into a ditch. What do you all think the problem may be(if one exists)?
Or am I just being too paranoid maxima owner.
thank you all in advance,
BI

The first thing to try is having your wheels rebalanced.

Thank you guys for responding to my query. As per your suggestions I
will get my wheels rebalanced. Only question I have in this matter is,
as I am nearning 30k miles, I will have to get the 30k miles servicing
done pretty soon. So, can I wait till that time to get my wheels
rebalanced or is it something which I have too look into right away.
thanks once again for all your help,
really appreciate it,
BI

Funny, I had a similar problem with my Max although my is an 1996 model. When a certain friend of
mine would sit in the passenger side the car would vibrate at speed (over 110 kms/hr). It didn't
have a problem when my wife sat in the car or when I drove it by myself. I started to look into why
it would happen with only this friend of mine, well his size make the difference. He is around 300
lb and when he sits in the car, even a slight inballance of the wheels made an impact to how the car
behaved at speed. I resolved to balance the wheels/tires using the new Hunter road force balancing
equipment. Ever since no more problems with car vibrations.
Have fun,
