I have enjoyed checking in on board through the years and have found it to
always be a useful and informative forum. Alas could not bring myself to do
my normal 2 year trade Max to Max. I could have learned to accept 04 Maxima
exterior design but the interior, parden the rhyme, was inferior. In 2000 I
tried Avalon XLS and found myself in 2002 longing for Max again and went
back. This time I went Acura TL, very different from Maxima, that I already
feel though thanks to NY snows have little driving time yet. If Nissan had
designed an interior and dash like the TL has I would have been the a happy
camper but alas they did not.

I probably will not return in 06 but one never knows does one. Enjoy, drive
em if ya got em!

Thanks for all the great info during the years!

Yikes!!  TL's are overpriced, ugly and cheap-looking from some angles,
need $850 sets of tires, have a tiny trunk and uncomfortable rear
seats.  Very nice interiors though, so if it floats your boat, it
sounds like you can afford it.

But, I bought a 2004 Accord EX V6 three weeks ago.  Essentially the
same car as the TL for 2/3 the money and 1.9% interest.  And simply
better in many ways.  Unlike the "MSRP, please" attitude at Acura
($33,500), I picked up the Accord for $24,300 +TTL.  Did I mention it
sees 60 in 7 seconds and does it on regular gas.....  The Accord
suspension is actually firm, it just needs better tires than OEM
Michelin/Bridgestone.  In '96 I was willing to pay an extra $5K for
the I30t over the Maxima solely due to the styling, but I was NOT
willing to pay an extra $10K for the TL over the Accord, and pay much
more for gas and tires on top of that.

But, fear not, I kept my I30t as a daily beater.  Sixty mile commute a
day.  Fun, fun, but it rides so roughly my wife basically refuses to
get in it.

You can get TL tires for $118 each off Tirerack.com

Yeah, with shipping & mounting maybe $600.  I recall I was pricing the
plus-sized tires the dealer had installed on custom alloys, which came
to $850 at Tirerack.  Of course, the dealer seemed to have this size
on every TL on their lot.

I do like the driving characteristics of the TL, it is not entirely
dissimilar to the I30t, although the TL feels like a significantly
heavier car (it isn't much, maybe 200 lbs).

But I'm also entirely happy with the Accord's feel.  The Accord has
less power steering boost than the TL, and feels sort of like my 1990
RS Integra (which was less boosted than the LS and GS models to
emphasize a "sporty" feel).

As Niss Tech observed, it only matters that the car makes you happy.

Your "feel" is accurate. The TL weighs more like 300-350 lbs more than
your previous I30t. An 04 TL with a 6 speed and without Navi, the
lightest version of that car, weighs in at a somewhat portly 3482 lbs.
If you have an automatic and navi, tack on at least 100 lbs more. Your
previous I30t weighed in the neighborhood of 3200 lbs. My assumption is
that the I30t compares to the 95-99 Maxima, its vehicular twin.

1996 I30t's come in at about 3300 lbs., which is a tad heavier than
it's "twin", the Maxima SE.

With longer overhangs past the wheels, and an extra 100 pounds of
soundproofing, I30's do weigh a bit more.  And are a bit slower.

4 tires at $118 = 472, plus ~$35 shipping = @507 + mount @ ~$45 = 552.
Add $80 to the bottom line total  if you opted for the 18 inch wheels.
Its still a lot less than $850 and not out of line with tire prices
for cars of similar size.  I almost never buy original equipment tires
because you can almost always get a better value in another tire.

Actually I just realized you can get tires cheaper than I indicated.
I was not viewing the whole list sorted by price.  You could do about
$100 better than what I quoted if you had the plus size tires.

JM,

I looked at and test drove the Accord EX V6 because I had the impression
that it was quite similar to TL. After checking both out and driving both I
found TL to be far different in drive and feel. The Accord is a nice car and
certainly they are trying to give them away right now. Salesman started me
at invoice 24,200. Called next day knocked off another 500. Sales Manager
called next day with " good news " but I didn't even get to what it was
since I already had the TL home. Yes I could have easily gotten the Accord
EX but it just wasn't anywhere near the same car to my thinking. I did get
1500 off sticker anyway so yes much more than Accord deal but I can live
with it.

Good luck with your EX V6, enjoy it!

George in NY - always a tender spot for the Max
