My 1999 Maxima radio backlight went out. I thought I would get another
radio rather than fixing it. I wanted for it to look factory so I
found an 1998 Exterra radio w/ cassette and CD player on eBay. Bolted
in and looks great and really works great minus one thing...the front
speakers produce no sound.

I tried the fader all over the place, but nothing. They were working
with the old radio.

Is there some sort of theft protection that could have affected this?

What else should I be looking for?

Another radio?

ANY Help would be greatly appreciated!

Might be a bum radio.  That's an Ebay risk.  There are places that
will repair known issues for a flat fee, if you want to go that route
with your old radio.  Try this site

Also, you could ask your original question with these folks, and see
if there is a compatibility mismatch.
Good luck.
