'91 Maxima Window Problem

My '91 Nissan Maxima is acting very strange.  The passenger power
window goes down on its own.  If I hold up switch, the window stays.
When I shut off the car, the window stays closed for a moment, but
then I hear a click sound come from the passenger door (near the
passenger window switch), and the window goes down again.  Other
times, when I shut the car off, the window goes down immediately and I
can't roll it up again until I hear that click sound.  Something else
odd.  If I do get the window up and then shut the car off, as soon as
I shut my door when I get out, the passenger window goes down again.

Another issue that may be related is that the passenger power door
lock will go down, but the switch won't make the door lock go up.  The
dealership said it's either the master switch on the drivers side
door, or the door lock actuator.

If the problem is the master switch on the drivers door, is it
possible that when the vehicle is off, the switch could be sending a
signal to the passenger window to roll down, causing the click sound
inside the passenger door?

Sounds like the master module is goofy.  They can get wet, and
remember the item may be over a dozen years old. Nevertheless, I'd try
a junkyard for a driver side master control first; you'd get out of
the  issue for a lot less money.  But also -- there might be a erratic
ground short. Check the wire harness where it goes from the door jam
into the door itself.  Look for binding wires, cracked insulation,
bare wire touches to the jam or door metal.  That could be causing
flukey behavior. Further -- the problem could be mechanical. The motor
drives a regulator cable mechanism, which may be about to fail
completely. Once you are inside the door, you can inspect the whole
area for lose wires, evidence of water entry, etc.  If you need info
on getting inside the door the right way, go to this site for
excellent instructions on door panel removal and window servicing.

That site has alot of other good 3rd Gen Maxima stuff too.
Good luck.

Thanks for the help.  I think I found a local source for a used master
unit.  I'll try that first, since it's only costing me about $20.
That's better than $120 from the dealer.  I appreciate your advice.
