I just bought a pre-owned 2000 Maxima SE. It is great, but I am
noticing a pretty noisy interior when I get on to the freeway. Is it a
known attribute, or should I get it checked?
Can it be fixed, in the first place?
Also, the AC fan makes some noise which is louder than I have seen in
most cars. It is not so much the noise of the air that is blown, but
more so of the fan rotating. Is this something that can be fixed?
Thanks in advance!

It hard to tell with such limited description. But I'm sure you could be
right if your previous car is a Lexus LS430.

Get someone who is used to these cars to drive it. Way to limited to know by
a web posting if it's normal or not!

Actually, I think it is the sunroof that is causing the problem. As
soon as I opened the slider, the noise level went up dramatically.
Need to get it sealed, I guess.

EXACTLY - I experienced a similar problem. I find the noise to be higher
when on the freeway. Then whenever I open the slider, it makes real big
noise. It seems that the rubber seal (or what ever they call it) must have
come off or must be loose. In my car, now I can actually see the rubber edge
come off. Try going to the car wsah with your slider - it might leak some
water too.
You get a rubber sealant glue for rubber trims, etc from Kragen or autozone.
Try fixing that and other rubber edges like on the door etc.
I had bought glue, but haven't had a chance to fix my car so cant give you
100% answer.
Let us know if it works for you.

Wind or tire noise, I wonder?
If the tires have some miles on them, they may be noisy even with lots
of tread left. Noise over the long-term is not a consideration when
designing most tires now, and they can start this relatively early.
Maybe 1/2 to 2/3 of the tread left. And they just get worse after
that.
You can rotate them if they're making a wha-wha noise, but if it is a
constant roar, they're shot and you'll have to replace them if you
want it quiet.

When I picked-up my '99 Max it was really noisy inside (road noise). It
took me a while to figure it out. Someone had put something in the RH
kick panel (amp or something). When they removed it (before selling)
they took out all the insulation that belongs in there. Once I put some
back in all was quiet again.
