Well, as Ring Toss Dave surmised (and was good) the tank DOES leak now,
should ahve chekded before remounting it...

::sigh::

BTW, to the person (again Ring Toss Dave) who suggested the gas-tank.com, i
called and asked before we cleaned the tank.  at LEAST 150 bucks.  (its a
280zx 1980 model, BTW, 2 seater)  Plus shipping.  WE can get a tank of a 79
ZX here locally at a wrecking yard for 125.

THink i should sent the tank to gas-tank.com and see what they think?
Judging by thier pics on the site, they can fix it.

They can fix it,  but you might also just call around to some local radiator
shops,  many also do gas tanks.  It isn't unusual to have to line one after it
is cleaned.   I would suggest you spend your money on getting the one you have
repaired,  getting one from a salvage yard may just be trading problems.   The
tanks going bad are a function of age and water in the bottom of the tank.  The
tanks are also different from model to model and year to year.

WEll from what i have read, IIRC, parts on 79-83 for drivetrain are
interchangeble

A gas tank isn't a drive train component.   I have a 75  260 body and a  76  260
driver  the tank outlet sizes are different,   and an 80  280   that tank is a
different shape.   I wound up having the tank cleaned and lined.   Hasn't caused
a problem since.   Might want to be careful how you fix those old Z's they may
last longer then you think,   the 280 has been in the family over 20 years now.
