I saw a nice 70 240z for sale on a lot a few days ago. They have it
tagged as a 71, but the serial number shows a 70. Wanted to list a few
things about it and see if their asking price is reasonable for what i
understand is a rare model:
engine is not original but is from a 70
engine ser# 17,175
body ser# 14,788
cabin exhaust vents in the rear hatch
has correct gauges--Speedo from 20mph and oil press up to 140lbs
automatic transmission (not available until 1971, correct?)
tach does not work
old style hub caps with silver "D" on black background in fair shape
Bumpers in good shape
no cracks in dash..did not look close enough to see if it is a cap
dealer added air, but no compressor anymore, but all other parts
no rust on floorboards or under carpets behind seats
no rust on rear hatch threshold
no rust under battery tray or anywhere in engine comp.
no rust on wheel wells
slight rust on lower fender behind 1 front wheel
slight rust behind one door frame
asking $3700
anything else i should look for? does the price sound right?
thanks for any replies

Now -that- is a rare car. I bet I can find some rust! :-)

If there's no rust - especially under the battery, it must have been fixed & painted. I'd be very wary of it, as you have no real way to tell if it was done right or patched with bondo & is a peice of junk.
Having said that, if it *is* solid it's a nice car to have. But I wouldn't want it with the automatic. I have a 5-speed from a '77 you could put in it... :-)
BTW if it's built in late '70 it would have been sold as the '71. Check the tag to see build date.
