Was out driving the Z for the first time today in a few months...Ran fine
through the morning, then had to jump it off every time this pm.  When
driving, the lights dim when hitting the brakes, as well as the SICAS light
flashes.  When pulling into my garage, was sitting still, engine still
running, and went to roll up the windows...the car just cut off completely,
no lights, no bells, etc.  Could this be the alternator?  Battery was
replaced 6 months ago is tested fine this afternoon....any help would be
appreciated...Thanks!

Thanks...Any idea on cost?  Should I take it to the dealer to fix?  How hard
is it to fix yourself?  Looking under the hood, I couldn't find the
alternator from a glance.

I just acquired this car from the previous owner a few days ago (I am also
the owner of a 2003 350Z -- and, yes, my girlfriend thanks I am crazy for
having 2 Z's, I guess I have Z fever, that or I just want a Z with more
pep!) and he had it garaged for a year.

If not replaced by the dealer, make SURE whoever does it uses a nissan
dealer reman unit. Don't let them talk you into anything else. Anything
else is going to cause problems, been down that road too many times..

It's pretty buried, you have to pull it from under the car. I wouldn't want
to do one in a driveway!

Also make sure the high press power steering hose isn't leaking and drowning
the alt. Common problem.

Hopefully the power steering won't be a prob...the guy I bought the car from
babied the hell out the car...  it's a 1990 w/o visible scratch on it!
Running 415hp at the rear wheels!!!  So you're from Atlanta, ever have any
meetings close to Columbia, SC?

Wouldn't matter, how do you "get rough" with a power steering hose? They
just get old and start leaking.

> it's a 1990 w/o visible scratch on it!

Makes kit 15 years old, and it's a turbo with extra heat under the hood ect.

> Running 415hp at the rear wheels!!!

Even more reason for the hose to be -overheated- and leaking.

And why do you think it was "babied" and hot rodded to 400+HP? You think
someone does stuff like this and then babies it?

True, true...had it looked at today...only problem was the battery cable
connectors are old and frayed.  Otherwise in great shape.

AtlantaRacing....BTW, you never answered my question...How often do you guys
meet and do you ever make your way to SC?   There are NO good clubs in this
area!

If you checked out the web link you'd see we are a -repair shop-, not a car
club. That's why I didn't answer.

Hmm mind trying http://atlantaracing.tripod.com/ and see if that works?

Hope cleaning the battery terminal was all that was wrong, doesn't sound
likely from your description..

Come to find out it was the battery terminals...they were frayed and needed
to be replaced, as well as it just needed some new spark plugs.  Fixed me
right up!  Thanks for the advice though!
