No. The wolf doesn't need or use the AFM. It uses a throttle position
sensor, a Oxy sensor, a air temp sensor, a water temp sensor and the
manifold vacuum. It controls fuel and ignition too if you have a crank
angle trigger. The dizzy can be used as the crank angle trigger if it
is modified by welding it locked so there is no mechanical or vacuum
advance (which I've done)

Because of my budget and because I know it can be done.

I'm not after more power. I'm actually after more drive ability and
economy now. I've been racing this car for years with tripple Webbers
very successfully, but now I'm too old and on a pension so I want to
de-tune the car to make it safer and more economical to drive for my
grand daughter.

Nice. I would do it your way if I was younger and had the finances :-(
Thanks anyway Steve

OK, I assumed it was the JWT (Jim Wolf Technologies) Z31 hot wire AFM
system.

If the system is looking for a mag trigger input, just hook it to the pickup
coil and the ignition output from the box to the module. The module is
marked positive and negative inside the dizzy and the external 2 connectors
just go to the coil hot and ground.

If you want it drivable for your grand daughter, just put the stock EFI on
it. It's going to run better and there isn't going to be much if any power
lost over aftermarket EFI using the stock intake manifold as it's the
bottleneck.

I should have been a bit more specific I spose. The Wolf 3D is made by
"Advanced Engine Management" here in Australia and is very much like
the Haltech EMC you mentioned before

Steve I also have a Crane XR700 ignition setup with an optical
trigger. Perhaps I should use this instead of the '79 dizzy setup?
If so do you have any experience with the Crane?
The optical trigger has three wires.

I have done that. I bought the complete EFI system out of a '79 280ZX
but the computer was dead. That is why I decided to buy the Wolf 3D
from a friend for $400 under new price. He had bought it a couple of
years ago but never got around to installing it.
Thanks again Steve

I'd bet the magnetic trigger would be easier to setup. I'm not much of a fan
of those crane ignitions.
