Gauge under the gas gauge?

So inset in my gas gauge is another little gauge that reads 0---1/8---1/4

I don't see a needle, what is this?

When the gas gets really low like a quarter of a tank the smaller gauge
kickes in.

Gotcha, cuz I think my main gauge is broken. I've only gone 100 miles and
its already slightly below 1/4 tank, and I topped it off.
