One day it was great and I replaced the plugs.  Next day I went out to
start her up and nothing. Not a thing. Won't even turn over.

I have checked the fusable link, the starter, the starter relay and the
clutch switch and the clutch start switch, all good.

Please some ideas??? I'm stumped.

With what?

How did you check them?

Do the headlights etc work still? I've seen plenty of these with a broken
negative battery cable right behind the battery, especially when they have
no holddown.

my son drove it that day parked it in the driveway. next day he heard the
factory alarm going off. by the time he got the key and got to it-it
stopped going off. then he tried to start it and it would not do nothing.

Sure it has worked, it doesn't set itself off in the middle of the night so
people don't think it works..

>   can the factory alarm shut the car down???

Yep, unhook the battery and let it sit, then reconnect. You might even have
to trip the alarm again, (lock car up with the window down, wait for the
security light then open it from the inside) turn it off with the key in
the door. The car won't start after the alarm has gone off and the alarm
shuts itself off after a period of time to keep from killing the battery
but still won't allow the engine to start.

Next time add the details about what happened before it had a problem.

I have an '87 N/T auto. This has happened to me too. I narrowed it down to a
relay switch. It is in a box of relays near the battery. I found by banging
on, or by removing & replacing one particular relay will solve my starting
problem. I'm not sure if it is the relay itself or the connection. But it
seems to work each time this happens.

However, Steve knows way more than I.  I would follow his advise first
before banging on all your relays. Especially since your alarm system seems
to be involved. Mine never went off as you described.

Good luck,
Randy

Gotta love the so called pro's. Don't know the statistics of factory
alarms in 300ZX's but I dont even think it was an option, I think they
all came with it.

They did ALL come with a factory alarm, people don't think they did
because they normally are never a problem i.e don't go off for no reason in
the middle of the night.

Only reason I knew mine had one was the neverending SECURITY light on
the dash, but you'd figure Nissan service people would know, and if
they didnt know they'd find out.
