<$40k for a 300 hp 2800 lb sports car. Is there anything that comes close to
matching those kind of numbers?
That 3.5 liter engine is supposed to be one of the best in the world.
What other cars in the same league as the Z?
Thanks
Calm down Brian,
the new Z ain't all its cracked up to be.
I'll take a vette over a Z any day

Who wouldn't? But we're comparing apples with oranges here, the Vette is
about twice the price. What compares that is close to the Z's price range?
I've heard the Infinity G-35 coupe in basically a much bigger version of the
same car?

Z33, you mean. The vette has just now caught up to the Z32 TT.

I out ran one with my NA 77 280Z so they can't be "all that". :-)
Granted my 280 isn't stock but it's not THAT radical either..

If the new Z had come with something like a 3.5L version of the RB26DETT or
even a factory turbo model of the V6 it might be more interesting?

Couldn't do that, it would have competed with the mythical GT-R and/or
meant there was no need for a new GT-R. Had to leave a nice long time
gap between killing the ZX and releasing the Z so the ZX would be too
old for the new car buyer to even bother comparing them. Slightly
lower performance Z moves the preformance level the new GT-R has to
reach a bit lower. Again leave a nice long gap so it doesn't get
compared too much with the R34.
With or without a GT-R Nissan will still lack a decent entry level
sports to replace the RS13. The Renault Clio in drag that they called
a sports concept is just a replacement for the NX/Pulsar/Sentra
200SX/Sunny and not the RS13.

Until the pull up next to one. I bet that 350Z owner wasn't too happy when
my old flat black 77 280z walked away from him! :-) A stock Z32TT will
KILL a 350Z.

One of the fastest cars that I have ever driven was a stock, 1990 Nissan
300ZX Twin Turbo. A buddy of mine purchased one the first week that they
became available at the dealership closest to where he lived at the time.
Not only was it fast in a straight line, but it would hug a curvy road
better than anything I had ever witnessed. Although it didn't happen with me
in the car, he told me that one night he had it shut down on him at 160
m.p.h. when the limiter chip said no more. He said that he could tell that
it would have most definitely done more than 160 m.p.h. had it not have been
for the computer holding it down. :-)

You ought to drive one with big turbos, big intercoolers, big injectors and
the fuel management system tweaked. They'll leave black marks when they
come on boost at 45MPH! :-)

Howdy All
The winter of 73, 74 i lived on top of a hill just north of Tucson,
near a little town called Summer Haven. Worked in Tucson, had to drive a
1200 Datsun down and back up every day. The road was about 30Mi. of paved
switch backs, the longest straight was about 3/8 Mi. Took about 18 to 20
Min. Nice way to wake up in the Morn.

Doesn't matter by then. Nissan have made the sale. Like he's going
to have any success asking for his money back or tell anyone.

bah, he needs to quit crying and put a turbo on his 350Z....

Where do you get a 2800lb Z? This says 3225 lb
http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/350z_35anniversary.asp
Z's haven't been 2800 lb since they lost the straight 6 engines.

You won't like this. *Warning* 19.4mb!
http://s5.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0YP9AFRTN5UCG1DF0FZIQ6RCJD
You really really won't like that 300ZX hands 350Z it's a.s over 1/5
mile. (it's a 287bhp one but 13 bhp extra is not going to make it a
winner)
New cars are crap, taller to get though side impact tests, Z is 2"
taller than ZX, heavier structure to get though impact tests, lost 2+2
but same weight, the list can go on and on. The only bits I want off
a Z are it's brakes and alloy suspension links. I don't buy a sports
car to be safe, I buy it to go fast, more weight and frontal area make
it slower, if I wanted safe I'd buy a school bus or some sort of truck
that needs a turntable to go round curves.

It's closer to around 3200 lbs for the coupe. If you're considering buying
I'd try and look for one under $30k. If you go over that, it might be
easier to buy a G35 which has more standard features.
The Maxda RX-8 and Honda S2000 are usually compared to the 350Z in the auto
rags. Both are lighter and arguably have better handling. But neither has
an adequate engine to compete in horsepower crazy America.
