Okay Guys,
I really love my car but the factory rims just ain't doin it for me, so I
want to box them up and store them for later use or when I sell the car.
I want bought a set of Stern ST-2 wheels with a 35mm offset, see pics at
sternwheels.com and they fit the Mazda RX-7 they came off of.
So, I'm interested in wheel spacers for a 1994 Nissan 300Zx Coupe,
non-turbo,
A friend mounted a wheel (no tire) and the back of the wheel spoke rubs
the front side of the caliper. So, I'm thinking a small spacer would
solve the problem. Rims will clear the rear brake calipers with about a
quarter inch of space. Front calipers rub the rims.
Would a 5mm / 1/4 inch spacer solve my problem ? Plan to buy 225/40/18
tires.
Will spacers cause faster tire wear or affect handling/cornering, and Are
They Safe, etc.... ?
My friend recommended Eibach spacers or another German brand, can't
remember name, but the Germans have high standards when it comes to
engineering.
Also, my front calipers are painted red and fading, rear calipers are
black,
is this the way Nissan manufactured the Z32 ? Seems like they should be
the same color. So we are wondering if the brake were changed out for
performance issues/more stopping power.
I bought the car from a guy who raced his cars
but I can't ask him, he slammed a Z32 TT into a tree going 122mph and God
has him now.

Also, part of the front wheel caliper will clear the wheel spoke. But the
portion with the nissan logo will not, that area is raised up. One person
suggested I get the lettering area filed down, said it would not affect the
caliper at all.
Brakes are very important, so I don't know about filing down. Think
spacers are better choice for know. But I' m hoping for feedback fro folks
wo have used spacers or know about them.

He's right, grind the letters off the calipers..

I read the thread about grinding the lettering
off the caliper. How much or how deep can I grind a caliper without
damaging it ? I have the read brakes too and the outer edges are lower
than the center where the lettering
is.
Was thinking about buying a set of 18" ADR Kasai
wheels and I know a guy who uses spacers for his set. Thanks.

I wouldn't go beyond grinding the letters off. Then again I've never sawed
one in half to see how thick they are there. I have watched a guy grind
through to brake fluid on a BMW once trying to fit some wheel on his car so
you can go too far fairly easily. But like I said I've ground the letters
off and that isn't going to affect anything.

What if Hensley changed to the 26mm calipers.
Are they smaller in size or the same width??
Would need new rotors if that would work.
Also, I went out to check out spacers/adapters and found that if your
going to use them, make sure you buy hub centric/with wheel centric hubs
so the weight of the car is not sitting only on the lugs. Former racer

I think that's mostly hype. Racers have been using plain spacers for many
years with no problems. Think about all the non-hub centric wheels
installed on cars, never seen that cause a failure either. The real
"interface" is between the wheel face and the hub/spacer, not the studs
anyway. The "centric" spacers do help center the wheel and help with
vibrations though.

Have you gotten the wheels to fit? I was recently going to buy the same
wheels. But the distributer I talked to said that with the spacer needed
the wheel would stick out past my front fender. Did you run into this
problem? Please email me a picture if the wheels fit. Thank you.

The wheels fit with a 10mm H&R Track spacer with the hubcentric wheel
fitment. They do not stick out past fender, close but no problem.
Also, after buying my wheels, I went to NOPI Nationals in Atlanta and a
guy came up, he had the Stern ST-1 wheels and said his friend bought the
ST-2 wheels and they fit. However, he said
wheel dealer should put 20mm rims on front and 35mm on the rear.
The 20mm rims will fit without spacers, the reason for 35mm on rear is
because this guy had 9.5 wide rims on rear for staggered look.
Regardless, I'm okay with spacers, I know guys who run spacers on cars at
the track. I never race my Z. Hope this helps.
