I traded my spare van to my son who lives out of town and got my hands on
his 85 2+2 non-turbo, with serious plans to replace the seat belts. Oh, by
the way dad, he says: "the clutch is slipping"...........  and boy is it
EVER.  Now, I need advice.  I have replaced a clutch twice on my 82 Celica
in an auto hobby shop with very few problems.  Can the the Z's clutch be
replaced in my driveway.  Is this doable if I put the car on ramps in the
front and jackstands in the rear. I have a factory manual. Thanks in
advance for any tips and or advice.

The main hassle is the front section of the exhaust has to come out. Also
you need to replace the pilot bushing while you are in there. Otherwise
it's pretty straight forward and tranny isn't -REAL- heavy IMHO so
shouldn't be awful doing it in the driveway.

Thanks Steve, I'm super worried about removing the front section of pipe.
That's why I replaced my transmission rear oil seal from above because of
my inability to remove the exhaust(previous post).  
I have purcased a complete Nissan clutch kit and an engine rear main oil
seal for under $200.  I have the vehicle lined up with a highly
recommended mechanic with a projected labor charge of $350 not counting
getting the flywheel ground.  What's the usual result when trying to
remove the front section of an exhaust that has not been off in 20 years?

Well, the highly recommended ASE Certified mechanic tells me you can't
grind Z flywheels....and I'm like "right".  So, I go to the Nissan Dealer
and they confirm it.  Bap-Geon sells me a flywheel for $43 and the
mechanic pulls the tranny Without removing the front exhauste pipe.  He
tells me horror stories about the studs on the front breaking off.  I'm
amazed by this; the  clutch is working well and I have all my old parts
back.  There were hot spots on the old flywheel and pressure plate.  I
checked the tranny after the clutch job before I sent my son out of town
with the Z and it was a quart low. One reason I checked it was because I
have a friend who had about zero oil in his Accord after getting his axels
replaced and that toasted his 5 speed. Cheers.
