I have recently bought a 1987 Nissan 300 ZX non-turbo version.   I was told
that this light is triggered by vehicle mileage.  The vehicle is running
fine and I am wondering if I should replace the sensor or reset it as it
bother me.  Someone here told me to unplug the sensor light which I could do
but I would rather deal with this problem if I can.  If I have to replace
the sensor, is it simple as plug and play?  or I still have to reset the
sensor light even if the new sensor is in place.  Is there a procedure to
reset O2 light that you can post it here?

Never seen one there. The ones I've seen were a single wire taped to the
harness by the hood pull that you disconected to kill the light. It's a
dumb sensor that has nothing to do with reading the sensor. But yes
installing a new O2 sensor is a GOOD idea!

Hello, I am newbie to this vehicle and want to learn as much as I can about
the engine and general maintenance.
I keep seeing MAF articles over and over again and it start to concern me.
Since this sensor is expensive and looks like it could go out light a light
bulb that mean the car stop.   My question is why Nissan engineer place the
sensor after exhaust or crankcase gas recirculation that could potentially
contaminate the sensor cause it to burn out?  Can the tube be relocated?  Or
I am just over concern for nothing.
Steve, You also said that you have never seen the relay behind the glove box
to reset the O2 light.  Does that mean it does not exist on 1987 model?  I
was going to remove the glove box to check but now you have me doubt.

Use original nissan dealer air filters and do a search on "AIV valve" and
make sure it never leaks exhaust through the MAF and you'll never have
problems with it.

Only if the AIV valve fails, they can't think of every possible problem. If
you're going to keep the car for a long time, a new AIV valve might be good
insurance?

It's just I've never turned off the light that way. The other way is much
easier and is how the FSM shows to do it. There easily could be a relay
there, I've never looked!
