I have a chance to buy a 93 Sentra XE that has a bad oil leak in the timing
chain cover. I'm thinking the chain is bad and wore a hole in the cover. Do
I have to pull the motor to fix it or can I just drop it down a little? Do I
need any special tools? If the chain is bad, what else needs changed?

Thanks,
Chris

You can do it in the car but it is tight.  If you could drop the motor
it is much easier.  I do not think it sawed a hole in the cover but it
could have.  Most of the time it is the seal that goes.  If you have
chain noise you are probably right and you will have to get another
cover or weld your up and that takes a good person with aluminum

Can you drop the front of the motor down just a little and get to it through
the wheel well?

Dropping the motor down a bit helps.  But, you can do it if you take
your time and get the engine on top dead center before you take it
apart.  Be sure to mark the position of all gears before the chain comes
off.  It is pretty difficult to see once the cover is off and since it
is so close to the shock tower.  I like to use an inspection mirror to
get the right angle to make sure the marks are dead on.
