my 4cyl ka24e truck was idling at 1500 when cold and 1000 when warm,i see
under the hood where it says no adjust needed for the idle,and no RPM
number was set,what is it?.i had a concern about the gas economy so i
adjusted the idle screw on the air intake and turned it down to 1000 when
cold an 750 when warm. will this improve the economy,or is it just the air
flow that it cuts?since it is fuel injected what is used to cut the fuel
usage at idle.

You have ajusted an air bleed. The air quantity controls the idle
speed...
P.S. As a rule... the newer vehicles have no such adjustment.

so does this mean when the air is cut back the fuel usage will also be
reduced? what effect will this have on the performance of the truck? and
what is the ideal idle speed?

There should be no problem in adjusting this where it works best for
you. I always had the idle somewhat slower on my 96 Sentra. It worked
fine and was easier on the drivetrain components during auto
transmission engagement. I'm not sure you'll save much gas though...

when i reduced the idle speed.for that time the fuel consumption increased
by about 70 to 80%.when i increased it back to 1000rpm the gas milage went
back to normal.at least i learned something.costly as it was!!! LOL

Huh??? You mean 7 or 8%? I don't see how changing the idle speed could
cause a 70% jump in fuel consumption. Doesn't make sense...

I stated the figure wrong i meant 20- 30%. i could even smell the poor
burning fuel when the vehicle was not moving, the milege was really
terrible.from full to half tank i got about 170 to 180 miles with the low
idle speed i got approx 145 miles and when i re-adjusted i got 180 miles
from half tank. all these measurements from full to half.
