If the Altima and the I30 are basically the same car, why is maintenance so
much more for expensive for one than the other? And why can't I use regular
gas on the I30 if they have the same motor?

Thanks.

Are you SURE they are exactly the same motor with the same compression
ratio?

You mean the Maxima or I30? They have come standard w/ the same V6 for
quite some time and Nissan has rec'd use of 91 octane in both. The 90's
Altima was 4 cylinder only and just recently with the 2002+ had the 3.5L
V6 engine as an option. Do a google search on -octane Maxima- and you
will get tons of hits on this topic, or search this NG via

The Infiniti dealer charges more because its Nissan's luxury line in the
US. Lots of perks like longer warranty periods and Infiniti loaner cars.
Let's say you drop off a 2003 I35 at the dealer for a warranty repair,
they will likely lend you another I35 or G35 while yours is being fixed.
Lately Infiniti has shifted to selling mostly RWD cars and the I35 was
discontinued.

The Maxima and I30 are the same car.  Anyway, I take my girlfriend's
I30t to the local Nissan shop for all work.  They do a great job and
charge much less.  The only thing they cannot do is warranty work,
which isn't an issue any more for an I30.  Of course, they also don't
have any loaner cars, but they do offer a shuttle service.
