I have a 91 Pathfinder. LAtely it has been costing me a lot to keep it
going. It has 212,000 on it and I have rebuilt the transmission, put
in a used alternator, and a cheap starter. The door locks also don’t
work, but that’s something that is a simple adjustment I thing. Same
thign with the driver side door - it won’t open from the outside.
(which, by the way, does anyone know how to get the door panel off? I
can’t figure out how to get the inside handle seperated enough from
the panel to do anything.) I also had a broken somethiong or other
replaced on driverside wheel. Now both sides of my manifold have leaks
and gaskets need replacing. WIth an estimate of $700 or more depending
on how many studs. I’m wondering if this will be the last of my
repairs or if there is anything else I should be expecting. Should I
just get rid of this pile? Also, if I don’t fix it is my car going to
explode (without my help) or something?

While it could go longer, these engines seem to give it up around 250K. I
think you've got your money's worth out of this one.. or instead of dumping
$700+ into the manifold repair, go ahead and rebuild the engine and then it
might go a while more?

Probably best to sell it and move on. I just got rid of my '93 with 270,000
miles and bought a 2002 with 59,000 miles for the same reason. The truck
runs fantastic, but won't pass emissions inspection because of the manifold
bolts. Almost everything on my Pathfinder still worked. A/C was cold as
ice. My door lock also stopped working and I had it fixed. Cost was about
$40. Other than that, there weren't any major problems with the vehicle.
Still, I couldn't justify putting that money into a vehicle with that many
miles. With my luck, something else major would break as soon as I put the
money into it.
