Altima Window Trim

The black rubberish skin on one of the trim strips at the bottom of my 99
Altima's windows is flaking off and revealing the chromed plastic
underneath.

Does anyone know how that strip is attached to the door, and if a new part
would be available from the dealer?  I thought I might be able to use some
electrical tape to patch it up, but I don't think it would be as
weatherproof as the original stuff, and probably would look a little funny.

I don't know why just one of the 4 pieces is in such bad shape, the rest of
them are intact and still reasonably rubbery.

I have never replaced that particular piece of trim... but as a rule...
it has clips underneath it that hold it in place. Usually you have to
carefully pry it up to remove. That piece will only be available from
the dealer or bone-yard. As far as why the coating failed... it's
anyones guess... maybe just a batch that had poor adhesion.
