Greetings:
The service engine soon light is illuminated on the dash. Bought a
code reader and it syncs up fine, but says there are no codes stored.
Was able to pull codes from another car just fine, and I loosened the
gas cap on my car and got the evap system failure code, so I don't
believe there's anything wrong with the code reader.
There has been *no changes* in how the car starts/accelerates/drives,
and gas mileage has remained the same as it ever was, about 37-38 mpg
in 1/3 city 2/3 highway driving.
The light is on steady whenever the engine is running.
Car is 2002 Sentra GXE 5-speed with 61,000 miles. All regualr
maintenance has been performed. Any thoughts on what could cause the
SES light to come on with no codes would be appreciated.

if the light is on a code is stored.
Try getting the code read with a different machine

Hi NissTech:
Confirmed with a code reader from the auto hobby shop, and again at
AutoZone (who will do it for free, BTW) that there is no code stored.
They suggested some kind of problem with the ECU itself, although as I
stated earlier the car runs perfectly.
Time to head for the dealer? The car was bought in Kalifornia so
certain emission items (including the ECU) are still under warranty.
Any tips appreciated.

Very rare to have a check-engine light malfunction. Did you make any
attempt to "clear" the light and shut it off? If so, what happened?
