How to Change O-Ring in ThermoWax Unit 96 Sentra?

Hi,

I think I have isolated a coolant leak in my 96 Nissan Sentra GXE, to
the O-Ring inside the thermowax unit.  But looking at the setup leaves
me stumped. I see the shaft coming out of the brass cylinder, and I see
the green discoloration around the shaft (leaking antifreeze?). But I
see no O-Ring. Is the O-Ring inside somewhere?

The thermowax unit is inside a box-shaped piece on the
throttle body. Looks like I can remove this box-shaped piece by
removing 4 bolts.  Will the thermowax unit come out somehow if I remove
the box-shaped piece that contains it?  Looks like the thermowax unit
is "pressfit" into the box-shaped piece. Do I need to bang the
thermowax unit out to get to the O-Ring?

Thanks....................

I hate to be ignorant... but what is a thermowax unit?

The thermowax unit contains wax that melts when heated by the hot
coolant. When the engine cools down, the wax hardens again. *Somehow*
(maybe by expanding and shrinking) the result is that a shaft is pushed
out ( I think) of the thermowax unit when it heats up, and then the
shaft is pulled back when it cools down. The shaft pushes on a cam
which controls the idle speed.

I did a search on "thermowax" in this group and found 3 additional
references to "thermowax" so it does exist, apparently. The Nissan
dealer knows about it too.  They have the O-ring for it.

Well... that's a new one on me.

My 99 Altima has one too.  My 94 didn't have one though.  I have no idea why
they went with this setup, unless it was to help prevent the throttle from
sticking shut since the thermowax keeps the throttle open when cold.
