No Rear Running lights...All else is cool

Car::  Infiniti SUV

Was helping a friend hookup electrical lines for a restored trailer...

Had problems with trailer lights...and car lights would occassionally
go out from grounding issues with trailer...but after unplugging
trailer and turning ignition switch off, lights on car would work
fine.

Almost as though a hear-induced breaker cooled and worked again.

We got to a point where rear running lights would not come on.  ALL
other lights are working fine.  It seems odd because brake lights,
directionals, hazard lights, front running lights, backups are all
still working fine.

It's just the rear side running lights as well as rear LED's for
running lights do not work.

We've checked all fuses inside the car (driver side kick panel) and
the inline fuses inside the battery enclosure.  All were intact.

So we're at a loss for understanding what is screwed up.

We have plans to bring the car into the dealership for a diagnostic
run, but I'm fishing for simple things we should check first.

Any ideas on how to remedy this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Did you electically test them with a test lamp or just "look at them"?

You could have toasted the circuit board that controlls the "brake light
out" indicator on the dash...

Just looked at them.

If so, would the brake lights and directionals continue to work as
they now do ?

I ask because the brake, directional, and rear running lights all
share the same LED cluster.

The smaller conventional bulb rear marker lights do not work.

Bad way to check fuses.. Many people make this same mistake. I've seen
plenty that "look" OK yet were electrically gone..

I've got no idea if these even have one of these boards or what is wired
through them, I don't have a wiring diagram. Also LED's normally need
dropping resistors to control the current going through them, you may have
toasted a board with these on them? I'm just throwing out some things to
look at. You probably need to take it to someone who's good with electrical
stuff and has a diagram of the harness..
