I am helping a friend with her 97 Infinity QX4. It has a check engin
light. Autozone shows a P14476 code that relates to an Auxiliar
emission control malfunction. She took it to a dealer, they said it wa
the EVAP cannister purge or vent control valve. They told her that ther
is a fitting that is broken off causing a filter element of some sort t
come loose, thus plugging the cannister so that fuel vapors will not g
back into the fuel tank. The guy at Autozone says that he has a 199
Pathfinder that did the same thing, he had to replace the purge valv
on the fuel tank. I put the rear of the vehicle up on jackstands an
crawled under the vehicle, couldn't really see much of anything as fa
as these components go. Did find what looks to be a small fuel filte
just to the rear and above the fuel tank. Has anybody else out ther
ever dealt with this problem before? Where can I find a reliable an
accurate schematic of the fuel system for this Infinity QX4? Are all o
the fuel vent components mounted on top of the fuel tank? Does the fue
tank have to be dropped to get to these parts? I sure would appreciat
any help with this problem. The dealer wants $900.00 to fix he
vehicle. I don't have any experience with this one. I'm a Chevy an
Harley guy myself. I am also an A& P mechanic, so if I am just set of
in the right direction, I can usually figure it out

Went to Autozone. Got the Haynes manual that covers the very simila
Nissan Pathfinder for the model years to 2001. ( Includes 1997 ). Go
the manual at a discount because it had already been unwrapped, and 10
military discount ( retired ). It has all the info I need, and I can us
it to look into several other minor glitches she has as well. Thanks fo
the help
