2000 frontier 58k/v6/5spd/4wd
the service engine light came on and the codes are for thr idle controll
system and the Knonk sensor.
The local shop tested the idle controll valve and said it was working
properly.
It would be 4 hours labor to replace the knovk sensor. They suspected it was
a computer problem since the IACV
tested to work properly. They sent me to the dealer.
The dealer said that both sensors were bad and needed to be relpaced along
with all thebelts to the tune of about $850.
Does anybody have any advise on this?
I'm thinking of maybe taking it to another dealer for a third opinion.
any suggestion will be appreciated and considered.
Thanks

The knock sensor may or may not be bad. You need to reset it and see if
it comes back. They frequently kick out false codes. I'd bet your IACV
is bad, regardless of what the first mechanic said. If it was my car,
I'd change the IACV and reset the codes. Then check again in a couple weeks.
