Im looking at a 97 short bed with AT and a 4 cyl. Wanted to know its
towing capacity. I will be towing about 2000 pounds 30 mies a day with
it. Will it hold up for ths? Price is a little high to me 4500 wth 60k
miles but its the best price I have found on a decent truck withlow
miles.

4x4 or 2x4?  We had a '97 4x4 4-banger 5-spd.  IMO the truck was
under-powered, and coupled with it's low gearing, was not suitable for
towing anything not lightweight at highway speeds.  It did off road and
around town pretty good, but had a tough time on hills at speed.  The
previous owners warned us they had tried towing a horse trailer with it and
didn't think it suitable.   However we had an older nissan pickup '89, 2x4,
AT, 2.4L 4cyl that didn't seem so sluggish.  Stated towing capacity of the
'97 is 3500 lbs.
