87 nissan 6 cyl truck

This truck starts missing when the rpms gets to 2800 and will not
accelerate past thsi point without shifting to a higher gear. What is
causing this. Plug wires are brand new.

Could you have some bad fuel? Has this problem lasted for more than one
tankful?

How old is the fuel filter?

Could be that one of your injectors or injector wiring could be bad,
failsafe cuts out at this rpm if that happens.

the vehicle is in fail safe.

The hot wire modulator (a.k.a. air flow meter) needs to be replaced
