What is this?

I opened the hood of my 97 Nissan pickup today and found something
stuck under the left side of the air filter. I don't know what it
is...but you can see it here:

It is about 3" in diameter and about 2" high.

Is it part of my truck or something that somehow just got stuck in the
engine compartment? (Sorry, I know it is a dumb question...!!!).

It belongs over the air intake (with the 2 threaded posts going thru the 2
holes), the pink air filter goes on top of that , and the air filter housing
goes on top of that and is secured with the 2 wing nuts. Someone work on
your truck recently? Anyway, it goes inside under the pink air filter
itself.

Thanks for the answer--I was able to put it back where it belongs.
Also, I did recently have some work done so I guess it came off at that
time. Fortunately, it was stuck pretty firmly under the air filter
housing so it had not fallen off.
