Bought this van used and love it but I'm in question if I should spend the
$500 to replace the timing belt with only 120k (I know the book says 105k)?
I doubt that the previous owner did as it's a repo.

Also, on the floor on right side of drivers seat is a small lever (peg with
round knob).  No one seems to know what it is for.  The carpet even has
grommets to fit over the peg.  ?????

Thanks for any info,
Al

A broken timing belt means a trashed engine, so yes, change it NOW. The
peg is to hold the factory floor mats.

a broken timing belt on any other Nissan engine means a trashed valve train,
Not on the Quest.

When Ford and Nissan got together to build the V40 and V41 series Quests ,
Ford put upon Nissan to make the engine non interference. Meaning it will
not bend the valves if the timing belt breaks.

Be advised ... THE QUEST IS THE ONLY VEHICLE CONFIGURED THIS WAY, do not
take your chances with other Nissan vehicles.

My advice is get the belt changed, after all who wants to get stranded in
the middle of nowhere.

Thanks , Guys for your quick relpy.  The timing belt will be replaced this
week along with the water pump (as I've been advised).

CAn't believe they would put a peg on the floor to hold the floor mats.  Not
a bad idea but has anyone else ever done this?  The 99 Quest or 2000
Villager didn't have this.

The '97 pickup has it and it is great.  My wife's car (Geo Prizm) doesn't
and her floormat constantly creeps around.

Lots of cars have these and it -IS- a great idea.

Consider changing the thermostat, water hoses, crank shaft & camshaft seals
to prevent oil leaks, tensioner bearing, external belts.

I thought the Quest had the same 3.3 as the older Pathfinders. Learn
something new everyday. I'd still change it though.

the "lever" looking thing on the floor is simply there to hold the floor mat
in place, as for the timing belt, id suggest you get a new one soon, id
rather spend 500 for having it done than much much more for a new engine

I was told that is to attach the factory installed floor mats.
