Hi All,

Was working on my brother's 93 Altima, was going to do the CV boot on the
passenger side as it is split.  However, I had a bugger of a time with the
balljoint, any special pointers?

Also, how does the axle from the passenger side slide out of the hanger
assembly?  Is it just splined into the assembly?

Thanks

how long has the boot been split?
are you going to replace the boot only or entire shaft?
Buy a service manual like Haynes, it should have detailed steps to remove
the shaft.
Also chech your local library, sometimes they have service manuals.

I bought a Haynes, it didn't shed much light on it.  I guess a 22mm wrench is
required to get the balljoint nut off.

The boot is not fully split yet, and upon inspection less than a month ago,
they were only cracked, not split yet.  Lots of grease in there still so I
think the shaft is OK.

search on web, I've seen some good info on general CV Axle removal.  Try
like autozone.com or kragen.com auto store site.
Have not done one myself, but I think you need a breaker bar and pipe, to
get some leverage on the nut to pry if off.
You'll have to take the joint apart to get the new boot on and need a
special tool to tighten the boot bands.
Might consider replacing entire shaft, might be faster than replacing
boot, plus if cv joint is worn, you will need to replace the shaft later.
check around for pricing, hear raxles.com has good quality cv axles.
