('93 Nissan pickup, 4 cylinder)
Twice I noticed the "Battery" light illuminating dimly (in a low-light
enviroment) and then going out. Some voltage measurements indicated my
alternator was not functioning and a bench test indicated it was only
outputting 10volts. (Fixed it -- stuck brush). I think the "battery"
indicator should have been relatively bright and continuous. I don't trust
it to alert me. What's the circuit? Any ideas?

What's the voltage at battery when car running and off?
How old is the battery?
Was the alternator tested on the bench after repairs.
Check all the associated cables from alt to battery, grounds, etc.
verify the connection are not corroded or loose.

Thank you for your reply.
The battery is past its prime but after some testing I doubt it's the
problem.
The battery voltage originally dropped with the truck running (a classic
symptom of a charging problem.) After the alternator work the primary
voltage now measures over 14V running -- clear evidence of charging. The
problem is with the sensing/indicator circuit.

Had a similar problem with my Axxess. No indicator light, but the
battery went dead. Brushes were a little bit short so I replaced them
but it didnt fix the problem. A new diode bridge got my charging system
back, but I too am perturbed the battery light didnt come on.
