I have a 1996 Nissan XE6 4X4 truck. It's in great condition other than
the fact that there is a popping noise from the front end somewhere
when I make a left or right hand turn in motion. Happens particularly
when I am turning tightly. I can often avoid this noise if I turn
widely at a slow speed).

Any ideas what this might be ? Amy damage I should be aware of? Ways to
fix it?

Thanks,

Daryl

Does your vehicle have steering stops?
On the Terrano the plastic caps wear out and then you get metal to metal
contact on full lock.
Have a look behind each wheel there will be 4 bolt heads (2 per wheel) that
limit the turning angle.
Replace the plastic caps or smear with grease.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like a bad CV joint or two to me.  I assume 4x4's have these up
front, the same as a fwd car does.  Take a look at your front axles, are the
rubber boots torn apart?

Is it in 4 wheel drive when it's doing it?  Don't use part time 4WD on dry
surfaces such as pavement.  The wheels need to be able to slip.
