i just bought a '91 Nissan NX 2000 like on friday. i was driving it home in
5th gear when i would start to lose power. I geared down to 4th gear to get
power. I did that for about 40 mins before i had to gear all the way to 1st
and start off again. About 5 seconds later i had no power and i had to have
the car towed into town. does anyone have ideas to what the problem might
be?

How many miles on the car? It sounds like it could be an exhaust
problem, like a clogged cat converter. My 86 Pulsar had the same
symptoms and there were two cats in the exhaust system, one in a cast
iron housing that was attached to the exhaust manifold, and the other in
the exhaust pipe under the cab area. The one in the manifold was blocked
on mine.
Unless you got a real good deal on the car, I would take it back to the
seller and have him fix it, or give back your money.

Did it seem to be mis-firing? Possible head gasket ? or fuel delivery
problem?
