2001 Nissan Primera Activ radio fascia (UK model)

My Primera has the type A stereo (radio cassette, no line in/source for CD
changer) It has a boot mounted Sony 10 CD changer which uses an RF modulator
to send the CD audio to the radio via an FM radio channel and the audio is
rather poor.

The guy on the parts counter at my Nissan dealer suggested I shop around for
an aftermarket solution to fit a standard DIN format stereo. I have Googled
and looked at UK car audio websites and cannot find a fascia adapter plate
to facilitate the fitting of a standard DIN car CD player. These are
available for cars like the Ford Focus, but no-one seems to sell them for
Primeras so I assume the conversion is a non-starter, unless anyone in the
group knows differently.

The other option is to find a secondhand Type B stereo, which has the line
in sockets and a source selector, though that may be a difficult task.

Any pointers would be most appreciated.

Dave,

The Nissan dealer is wrong, Nissan supply a facia that will fit into your
car.

You need to ask the parts dealer to look in his catalogue under the section
associated with Sat Nav.

You will need the facia plate and a new hazard warning switch. The parts are
pretty cheap.

Good luck

Pat.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for that, you're dead right!

I've just rang them and they've found what I was looking for. The Plastic
bezel is £8.70 and the hazard switch is £13.27, not bad at all.

I can't work out how the old radio comes out though. The dealer told me to
insert a thin metal rod in each hole (there's only one each side unlike DIN
fittings) and push, and the radio should be released. I've used drill bits,
pushing with pliers, and nothing moves at all, so I'm wondering if there's
some anti theft mechanism involved?

Anyway, thanks for your help, it's got me sorted :-)

Did you insert two rods, one on each side, then leave them in there
while you pulled the radio?

I didn't, I'll try that tomorrow, thanks. I expected to feel something move
as I pushed the drill bit in but it was an absolutely solid dead stop. I'll
try and push both sides tomorrow and see if that works. Failing that, I'm at
the Nissan dealer tomorrow to pick up the radio conversion kit, I'll ask
them to do it for me ;-)
