Does anyone know which fuse controls the sunroof in the 2002 Maxima?
My local dealership didn't know and 1-800-NISSAN1 actually REFUSED to
tell me whether there was a technical manual available that documents
the fuse.

It is probably a good bet that the person you talked with had no idea what
the answer to your question might be.

The manual for the '02 Pathfinder lists a fuse, a fusible link and a circuit
breaker to check.  the Maxima should be similar.

Here is the diagnostic info for the pathfinder:  Check 7.5A fuse [No. 11,
located in fuse block (J/B)], 40A fusible link (letter f, located in fuse
and fusible link box) and M145 circuit breaker. Turn ignition switch ³ON²
and verify battery positive voltage is present at terminals 2 and 3 of power
window relay and terminal 1 of sunroof motor.

To get the Maxima service manual, visit:

http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/nissan/

You can either order a copy for yourself at that website, or subscribe to
access the manuals on-line.

The owners manual lists no fuse information and the service manual your
link points to costs $210.  It's probably cheaper for me to let the
dealership look at it than buy the manual.  However, as soon as I get a
chance, plan to snoop around in the fuse boxes myself.  Hmm, maybe
right now.

You can also buy a 24 hour subscription for access to the books on that site
for about $20 and download whatever you need.

Nissan does seem particularly proud of their service manuals.  Most other
car makers only charge about $70.  But the logic is still the same - if you
can solve one major maintenance problem with the book, it will have paid for
itself.

Have you actually priced any of the other import manuals? The toyota ones
are unreal!

BTW I highly doubt his problem is a "fuse"...

I have the books for the '00 Acura TL, the '95 Acura Integra and the '96
Honda Odyssey.  Each was $70 from Honda, and with somewhat more detail than
the Nissan books.  The book for the '91 240SX was about $70 from Nissan, but
they have gone up.  $210 is about what I had to pay for the '02 Pathfinder
book.

I did find a CD of the book for the '96 I30 on EBAY for $15.  Unlikely there
will be anything this new on there for that low a price, but it can't hurt
to look.

I admit that I have no reason to price any of the other makers since I
haven't recently had to do anything with any of their cars.

I don't think he (she?) has actually given any hints as to what the problem
actually is.  I have only seen posts asking about fuses and service manuals.

If someone is looking for a "fuse", they are looking for a simple solution
for something that has stopped working. Even if it happens to be a fuse,
what made it blow?

The problem is that the sunroof will not open.  However, it also has a
tilt option that still works.   So, it won't slide open, but will tilt
up.  This problem started immediately after replacing the battery which
is why I thought a fuse might have blown.  On the other hand, it could
be the sunroof motor.  I thought I'd go with simplest solution first
(but it hasn't been simple).

There are a number of things to check depending on exactly what works and
what doesn't.  Your cheapest path, assuming you want to work on it yourself,
is probably to buy the 24 hour subscription on the Nissan pubs site and
download the parts of the manual that relate to the sunroof.  Electrical
part is in the EL section and the mechanical assembly is in the BT section.

I took my car to the dealership and they stated that the sunroof motor
needed to be "re-set" as I recently replaced the battery.  How lame is
that?  Designing a motor to require a re-set after battery replacement.
I intend to make them show me how to do it when I pick it up.

I just found this out the hard way on my '02 Pathfinder.  As soon as the new
battery went in, the sunroof would only move about 2 inches no matter what
button was pushed.  Working it all the way back and all the way closed (2
inches at a time) and it started working again as soon as it had moved
through the whole cycle.

yes that realy sucks!

nissan has a few really unuasual querks lately.
The new Z has a problem with the windows. The windows sit in a chanell
at the top when the door is closed. as you pull on the door latch in
instantly drops the window a 1/4 inch and when the door is shut it
pops back up in the chanell. unfortunatly if the battery goes dead the
windows wont drop and you cant open the door or you will break the
glass. Problem is you need to get inside to pop the hood. I left
Nissan just a few months after the new Z came out and I dont know how
they are addressing the issue.
