my exhaust is smoking like crazy...only after i put MORE oil in the tank. i
noticed my oil lite was on so i put oil in it 4qts to be exact. i waas due
for an oil change but last time i went to grease monkey they didnt put enuff
oil in it cause 2wks later it was smoking because it was empty says the gas
attendant!!??....so i decided to go about servicing my car on my own and now
i have a real big problem...nothing under the hood is smoking just the
exhause..also i wanna add when i was poring the oil the spinning thing inside
was splashing every where so i turned it off and finished putting the oil in
(4qts)...only when i press the gas does it smoke..but i cand drive it because
it smokes to much....after i noticed the smoke i left the car running for
2hrs hoping it was flushing or something.....help me understand what i need
to do now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, by the time the oil light comes on it's too late. It means it's
running without oil pressure. That engine is almost certainly trashed.
Sorry.

You may try some of the "miracle" products that supposedly increase
compression, fix oil leaks, etc. (example:
http://www.atvconnection.com/atvconnection/Features/productreviews/Restore-Engin
e-Restorer.cfm
)
. It's certainly not going to hurt at this point. I have never tried any,
but it may get you a little further down the road to the next engine or car.

I hate to say it but agree with the other post: Your engine is most likely
blown.
It is often not worth rebuilding an engine by a mechanic because of the time
it will take as opposed to replacing it with a junk yard engine.

If it is a fairly new car, that may be a  worthwhile option. If it is older,
you may want to think about junking the car (donate it so you can write if
off your taxes, perhaps) and replacing it.

I don't mean anything by this, but buy the "car maintenance for dummies"
book so that you can alleviate this problem on your next car. Learn to do
basic maintenance and learn to listen to your car.

Hope I am wrong.

in my opinion, id find a decent mileage engine and a salvage yard and have
it installed, 97 isnt that old and if the car is in otherwise good shape, id
do it.

installed for around $200.00
