I see it's under the oil filter on the passenger side. Phil give it a shot, you'll have a great time. I bought a Nissan starter/soleniod, and read up on various techniques for getting the old starter out (Haynes manual, various forums, etc). Well, I climbed under the truck stared it down and tried to get at if for like 20 minutes and said "screw this". I'm sure that with my lack of experience, best case senario would have been all day. More likely I'd end up with a stranded truck with no starter. Brought it to a local garage and they installed it for $75. Best $75 I > ever spent. That is what I'm afraid of based on your description. Possibly the 5spd tranny allows for easier removal Thanks in advance. Phil 95 4x4 5 spd: remove the skid plate, remove starter bolts and pull towards the front. I had to twist it a lot but it basically came right out the front.
