My 95 Nissan pickup has the KA24E engine. When idling, I hear a sort of
scraping noise that seems to be in rhythm with the valve noise. The noise
goes away when I step down on the clutch. I can't tell if the noise is there
when I'm driving because of the road noise. This has been going on for over
a year. I haven't done anything about it because the truck runs fine.
Is this something that needs attention?
possibly the throw out bearing?

I've got a similar sound that occurs under the same circumstances (clutch
out, engine running) that I've been told could be the pilot bushing. I had
it to the dealer and although they couldn't hear it at the time, they
thought from the description that that was likely it. From what they told
me it's a self-lubricating bearing/bushing that supports the end of the
input shaft to the trans (correct me if I"m wrong, anyone) and it'll just
get louder and won't cause any problems other than that.
I'm hoping they were right :)
