My 1995 Nissan pathfinder will not start.  I tried to warm it up the other
day.  It started rough and I left it for a few minutes.  It died and now
it will not start back up.  I have changed the spark plugs and checked the
battery.  They both SEEM fine.  If anyone has any ideas I'm open to hearing
them!

Is it cranking? Does the fuel pump run when you turn the key on? Check the
3-pin connector going to the MAF - disconnect it, clean it and reconnect. Is
it really cold there? Maybe frozen gasline?

I think we need more information.

could the timing belt have gone?
how's the mileage and was the timing belt ever changed?

If the timing belt had gone, wouldn't it make really bad noises when he cranked it?

nope.
I had it happen to an old Honda.  cranked at first, then nothing.  ended up
with 4 valves bent. might be good to do a compression test just to make
sure.

should have also mentioned...have a friend who was driving down the
interstate (many years ago) in a Toyota.  all was fine then the engine just
died.  he pulled to the side but couldn't start the engine.  it would turn
over but nothing else.  he took it to a shop and found out the timing belt
went.  same story...replaced bent valves changed out and all was fine after.

In general I thought that Toyota's had the non-interference scheme, although
Honda & Nissan were engine killers. Of course, I don't know about every car.
(understatement :-)

Happened to my '83 Honda Civic. It never stopped cranking, but I never did
get the nut off the crankshaft pulley to put the new belt on. Probably did
bend the valves, but I don't know.
