I purchased a replcement remote off of ebay for my 98 Altima. Both the
old and new remote say FCC ID KOBUTA3T. This one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8021219293&
sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT
I thought it would work, but it doesn't. How come?
I verified that I am following the programming steps correctly by
re-programming the old remote. The reason I got a new remote was because
on of the buttons on the old remote stopped working.
Thanks

Is it actually transmitting? Bad battery?

I switched the batteries, too. No luck:(

I sure don't know but I will say this, I didn't trust ebay because I'd heard
reports of ChiCom counterfeits being sold as OEM. This maybe your problem.
That being said, you're out what, $20.00? If you don't get satisfaction,
try www.chipkeys.com I had great success with this guy. Also, his
programming info is free. Go to www.ProgramYourRemote.com and verify that
the procedure you were given is the same as listed here. Good Luck!

If this is a counterfeit, it's a fantastic copy. It looks just-like-OEM.
Wish it worked, though:(

Do try the programming site I posted. It was dead on for me.

The instructions that came with the remote were accurate. I verified by
re-programming my old remote. The instructions are identical to the site
you referred to as well.
I wonder if there is a way to tell that they are actually counterfeit.

The 2000-2001 Altima remotes have a HORN symbol on the large button where as
the 98-99 don't, they have the same FCC ID but they are not compatible.
I bought a 2000-2001 remote for my 98 and it didnot work. may be we can work
something out.

EVen though the 98-99 don't have the hron symbol, they do the same
thing, it's just that the 200-2001 remotes "tell" you more. If you hold
the 2000-2001 remote big button down for a prolonged period, the panic
feature will activate your alarm. That's the same as the 98-99 horn
button, just implemented differently. As for the difference, the
2000-2001 have a trunk button which I knw I will not be able to use.
As for working something out between us, I don't see how considering
that we are in the exact same situation:)
